I have a 15" laptop with a cooling pad, so around 16". If I cover the cup holder, there is room for the mouse. I'm a fairly heavy person and have about 3 inches of space between my legs and the bottom of the table so there's plenty of room to grow. I can sit comfortably, which means my legs don't have to be tied together. On the other hand, he sways slightly, if I want to put him aside to stand up, I have to bend my legs. It is strong, although sufficient for use. It doesn't look like it's going to fall when you're under it. I wouldn't recommend leaving it on the bed or sofa when getting up. The same with a lot of movement. Still, it's worth buying.
