Works as intended for fax, but I'm having trouble setting it up. Not suitable for the voice! (They have another machine for this.) The dial tone has a lot of interference, but a fax machine can work around that. Setting it up is very simple: just plug it in. The difficulty arises when one of the devices flashes a red light. A red light on the base usually means no phone service, so this is an easy fix. A red light on the remote unit means you are not connected to the base unit. I've tried several outlet combinations with mixed results. My worst pair of sockets just seems to keep connecting randomly. Moving (the base unit) to another room solved this problem. Don't waste time with the red light on the remote control. If it works, you'll get the green light almost immediately. When in doubt, plug in the remote unit in the same room as the base unit (they should definitely turn green) and then start moving them into adjacent rooms that get further and further apart. I'm not sure I recommend this for heavy fax usage. . Given the amount of static, I think (for my setup) it's hardly enough to make me miss a fax (faxes have a lot of bug fixes). As a result, faxes sometimes take longer than usual. With little use it works perfectly for me. Contrary to the instructions, I plugged mine into a fuse strip and didn't notice any difference from plugging into an outlet. Some noise will be added, but it may not matter. If in doubt, try without. (Hey, good rhyme!)
