Everyone uses these thick pencils when carpentry. The hole size on this thing calls for a mechanical pencil. The biggest problem is that the lines break fairly easily when trying to mark the wood. I pushed the pencil in as thinly as I could, but it still didn't fit through the holes. You must use a mechanical pencil. Pros: Light weight and fairly accurate. The main reason I bought it is to lay long 2x4x8 lines and when I use a mechanical pencil it usually breaks 2 or 3 times laying the line. I definitely wouldn't buy it if I was new.
