Kalita can only be compared to aeropress. I've been using Kalita for about 2 years and at least 5 with Aeropress (no longer in use). Note: I use 155 (stainless steel) when making a mug just for myself (250g) and 185 (ceramic) for me and my wife (620g). Overall I think the Kalita makes a better mug than the Aeropress, but it takes more experimentation to make it. In my experience I've had to spend more time finding the right grind size, proportion and potting technique to get great results, but you will be rewarded. What you need is a good quality coffee grinder (I use Lido 2), a scale and a spout (the slower the better). With an Aeropress you can "throw everything in" and the coffee is very good and requires no special pouring technique - just pour it out of the kettle. I will also add, at least for myself, that the experience of making coffee with Kalita is very pleasant / more relaxing - it takes longer, but I like the procedure. If you are not patient I recommend not buying this. Finally, Kalita is as easy as cleaning - throw away the filter and a quick rinse with water, done. I think of it as total time roughly equivalent to an aeropress, but I spend more time brewing and less time cleaning than vice versa. Much luck.
