It needs new foam and upholstery but that should explain how long I've been using kneelers. I tried another new lap stool and was disappointed because it had this manual part to change the height. It was so painful that I gave it away - realizing it was a pole that I had to move up and down like the head of an outdoor lounger - just slide it into place. Yes, it held him, but it wasn't what I wanted. This kneeling chair has a pivoting height adjustment so I can sit down, do a half squat (feet on the floor, back of the seat) and rotate the height to get it where I want, much easier than the notch type. I like the foam used in this seat - very comfortable - and may try to find something for my old lap chair if I'm about to change it. Overall, this is a very decent kneeling chair for those who like to sit this way - it helps keep your lower back straight, which is half the problem with regular chairs.
