The trade offs are exactly what you should expect compared to wire, plastic, and wood.I think the much thicker than wire, much thinner than plastic or wood, steel hangers make a good combination of strength and durability while being fairly narrow for better storage. They allow more things to be hung in a given space relative to the thicker plastic or wood ones while not bending out of shape and holding even doubled up heavy jackets and coats if needed unlike wire and plastic ones. They are the heaviest hangers I've had, so slightly heavier than wood ones, but the difference is small and seems worth it.
