Review on πŸ”Š Edifier R1280DBs Active Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers: Premium Studio Monitor Speaker with Optical Input and Wireless Connectivity - 42W RMS, Wood Grain Design by Michael Rodas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

With the right songs and a turntable these speakers come to life

Looking for cheap bookshelf speakers with good throw I came across the Edifier speakers. My Klipsch 2.1 setup is a bit outdated and the sub has stopped barking, so it's time to pull the trigger for a clean install - and I'm glad I did. Out of the box these speakers don't feel cheap at all - good finishes and materials, and they have weight, if not heavy (if that makes sense). Plugged them in and found a white noise video on youtube to help them break in properly. and then i upload different songs to youtube to test the speakers. YES - I know Youtube is hardly the place for the highest quality audio, so it's not surprising that they admittedly sounded a bit flat when listening to songs. The highs were decent enough, but from what I've read about these speakers they tended to be a little bass heavy. In fact, it was a bit of a bass for my taste. Frustration started to grow. Then I opened WinAmp (shows my age), selected a few songs I had and tweaked the EQ, and then these speakers started working. Obviously there was bass, but the highs sounded higher without distortion, everything just sounded fuller. The thoughts of having to buy an additional subwoofer immediately disappeared afterwards.
