Our family has been using the slow cooker for decades. Several times a week we used slow cookers to make beans, broths, and soups. Unfortunately, we had some problems with this multi-cooker model. We bought our first one in 2011 and used it until November 2016. It failed when the cable shorted out in a spectacular flash and melted at the point of exit from the bottom of the furnace. We thought we'd give it another try in November 2016 with the same model, the size was right and we actually got 5 years of service from a unit at a modest price. In March 2018 I examined the wire on the replacement wire and found that the insulation had melted and both wires were exposed in the same place as the wire on the first pot. The conditions for replacing the pot were clearly unsafe, and it is likely that a short circuit will also occur with continued use. So this multicooker was thrown away. We're not sure why, but we decided to try again in March 2018, thinking it might still work if we'd been extra careful not to bend the cable and stretched it as far as we could as far as possible from the bottom of the pot. It's not like this. In November 2018, he examined the cord closely at a problematic spot. There was a 1 inch crack in the insulation that started about 1/2 inch from where it enters the pan. Based on our experience with the previous two multi-cookers, we will no longer be using this multi-cooker as it is unsafe. We will not buy another multi cooker until this design flaw is corrected. In my estimation the existing design poses a fire hazard and exposed wires pose an electrical hazard. We also have another larger multi cooker - model 3040 BC purchased in 2011. It is used much less frequently. The line design is the same. He also has a bald spot on the insulation in the same place, so that one gets thrown out too. Wire for the first few inches or so to make sure there aren't any cracks or bare spots on it.
