I bought this camera as an alternative to the built in FaceTIme camera on a mid 2017 15" MacBook Pro. I was unhappy with the built in camera for a long time but really didn't care. Now , where I use one daily for web conferencing, I decided to buy an external camera as an upgrade.Unfortunately, that was after the hype, which is why Logitech cameras were (and still are) selling out everywhere after looking at it for a week I decided this camera has good reviews and seems like a worthy option.I realize this is a pretty cheap camera so wasn't expecting to be blown away.I received it and hooked it up.It was very easy to use as it supports UVC and doesn't need any drivers. That's where the positives end.The picture quality is absolutely abysmal!1) If you are in a room, even with normal ambient light, white and gray will be completely overexposed and overexposed. In my case, this causes my face to be just a white spot. 2) If you reduce the amount of light, everything becomes completely underexposed, dark and noisy. There is no intermediate value. It's either completely overexposed or underexposed. 3) For my use, the wide angle is terrible. It's so wide that it shows the entire space behind me, which isn't exactly ideal for web meetings. It is not possible to trim it unless you are using web conferencing software with a built-in video cropping feature. I've tried adjusting the picture settings using 3rd party software (ManyCam and OBS) but it's completely hopeless. I will be returning this camera asap and will be using the built in camera until I can get a Logitech C920, C930e or Brio. It's worth the wait and the extra cost.
