Bought this to transport my cat on 4 flights totaling 3700 miles. Going through TSA was a snap (but I put the cat in a harness with a leash for when I had to take him out of the kennel). The ability to open the top made it simple to remove and return my big guy.I wish I'd realized earlier in my travels that the fabric sewn on one of the long sides isn't a pocket, it's meant to slip over your roller bag extension handle to stabilize for walking around the terminal. Doesn't keep the whole rig from falling over on its face if you're not balancing it, but it keeps the kennel from slipping off on any side of your roll-aboard. I don't know if the kennel would be sturdy enough to haul a big cat around using just the shoulder strap, but I wouldn't want to carry him around all day, anyway.The soft sides made it possible to fit under some of the lower aircraft seats (good luck getting firm info from your airline on how tall the kennel can actually be). My cat is fairly large (see image where he's lying next to a checked bag), so he really appreciated the zip-down "patios." On most of our flights, I had to start off by stuffing the case under lengthwise with just the short end facing my feet available for airflow. It's required that the kennel be placed under the seat in front of you. Photos included show two different aircraft/seat styles at takeoff. After takeoff, I put the kennel lengthwise basically where my feet were, and opened one long side extension. That made my cat much more comfortable and increased his airflow. It was also nice to be able to unzip the top to reach in and give him some reassuring pats.Long layovers we're made less stressful by opening several of the patios so that my cat could look around, and see me for reassurance.The zippered pocket on one short end was handy for holding my cat's paperwork and photo.
