I used a strap on my legacy Garmin watch. Cycling, hiking, leisure, etc. The strap was on the watch for just over a month and the clasp came loose (see photo). I don't know how it happened or where. Luckily the strap stayed on until I got home from work so I didn't lose the watch. It's a shame about the quality of this group. It's comfortable and looks good. If it falls apart for some unknown reason, it's no good because these watches are so expensive.
