I bought this toy when my son was just over 1 year old and he loved it it. He played with it both outside the tub and inside. It was lightweight and easy to carry as it had a handle. He especially liked that he could put things in it, like "submarine passengers". The sub is made in the USA from 100% recycled HDPE milk cans (high-density polyethylene is a petroleum-derived thermoplastic polyethylene that is a Category #2 plastic). Length 11 inches, width 4.5 inches, width 4 inches. in height. It has a top hatch/handle that attaches to the sub with a hinge that you push to release and that opens into a 2.75" x 1.25" opening. The top half of the sub is attached to the base of the sub with 10 clip hinges located inside. The submarine is designed to be very strong afloat and will not sink unless intentionally lowered underwater. My son loves this feature, especially since he has a few other floating bath toys. absorbs water too easily and sinks to the bottom of the tub. The handle is ergonomically shaped and very comfortable. However, when I keep scooping and pouring water, part of the handle comes loose and separates from the sub. The Sub has a nice wide spout perfect for pouring water - it's easy to control where I'm pouring water, especially when I'm washing my son's head. The sub was used in the tub every night for 6 months before mold started to build up inside, even with our best efforts to dry all the toys with each use. I'm sure it also depends on where you live (we have very high humidity). The top of a submarine is incredibly difficult to separate from the bottom. I initially tried opening the 10 loops of the clip with a credit card to avoid damaging the sub, but soon gave up and opened carefully with a flathead screwdriver, resulting in slight deformation of the plastic. The hole in the top of the sub was too small for anyone but my son's hands to reach, so it wasn't a convenient access point to clean the inside of the sub or to unclamp the clamps. After opening it, I was able to wipe the entire interior surface. There were many nooks and crannies inside the submarine. The great thing, however, was that no mold penetrated or discolored the plastic. I definitely recommend this product if you don't mind the service. Overall, this is a great toy that my son (who is now almost 2.5 years old) STILL loves, but the difficult cleaning and mold and water build-up inside make it less likely to be my son's bath toy.
