Not a DJ, I recommend this one. The RT81 is the third turntable I've tried to reignite my interests as a record collector at a price point that suits me and it's a winner. I tried one of the Audio-Technica LP60 but it seemed cheap to me so I went with the AT LP120-USB. But I could swear it sounded too muddy/midrange given the hype surrounding it. So before returning it I bought an RT81 and played the same record on both machines. To my ears, the RT81 sounded better than the 120-USB; brighter/clearer, less "midrange". It's interesting to note that both units come with the same pickup, the AT95E, so I've concluded that the RT81's built-in preamp is better than the 120-USB. I read another review of the 120-USB by someone who seems to be an expert on how you have to sacrifice sound quality in order for USB to work, so I can only agree. I was also looking for an autoplayer. It wasn't a bummer, and while the RT81 isn't fully automatic, it offers a very simple feature that I wanted: it stops recording when a page is done, rather than going on and on while I'm distracted by other things. or forget it's on, etc. Of course, what it does is pretty funny: the tonearm doesn't lift or fall back into place. The plate just stops spinning. It only stops when the arm/pickup is resting on the record. At first it annoyed me, but then I realized: so what? So it wins by being a great turntable with a touch of automatic functionality. One small thing I would have liked Fluance to do was provide a 45rpm adapter slot and make the adapter bigger than it is: a super cheap piece of plastic. There is no place to save, but there is a 120 USB. But whatever. I'll be playing 33 1/3 records 99% of the time. Finally, the RT81 is great; the photos don't do it justice. This is a really nice device. I don't need my player to play backwards or sync the crystal or play at variable speed; Of course, in this case, use 120-USB. I haven't tested it yet, I just bought it but for now I'm very happy with the RT81.
