I used a clip to pry the tiny plastic tabs and remove the extra pin on the connector and insert the extra terminal on the connector. I think that's all it takes if you're using it as an extension cord with another cord. I use it as an extension cord with a small PCB device so I had to rearrange the cords so they don't get twisted to one side. There doesn't seem to be a one size fits all cable, but it has good flexibility, allowing cables to slip out and be rearranged. If I had to do this work over again, it would certainly take me less than five minutes of easy work.
