First. When I took the sewing box out of the shipping carton, the handle came loose. The screws were not long enough to attach the handle. When I took it apart to paint I found that one corner at the base was not glued. It is solid wood as described in the post. When I sanded it there were no chips or splits. The wood has taken the Danish oil well and looks very nice with a nice wood structure. Knowing what I know I could still buy it and be prepared BUT I would probably hesitate at the current price and look elsewhere.
