They're lightweight, but that also means they won't scratch. Mine had a few small white spots but they were mostly black spots but you can still see them on a very dark surface. However nothing like the picture; Compared to other cowhide products, they are just fluffy coasters. However, they are very soft and work like coasters without slipping.
