Luckily I bought it despite the bad reviews.

We have untreated steel railings. After 19 years, they rusted so much that they started cutting their eyes. We tried polishing them but it was a waste of time. I used this product for 3.5 hours and was left with raw steel. To be honest it was too humid. However, after polishing it, we were back to "like new" condition. You must NOT allow this material to dry. The packaging is very clear. Cover it with plastic wrap or peel it off before it dries. Our neighbors wanted to polish them. Once you do that, you're screwed because there's a lot more surface area for rust to form on. We used the following polish: ?ie=UTF8&psc=1
