Several other reviews said their orders were damaged or broken when trying to fit the hat. I must have been lucky as I had no problems - washed the hat in the dishwasher and it came out very clean. The buckles on the back strap can rust over time and foul the cap, but that's not a result of the product itself. My only recommendation from the company would be to add a little more info on how to properly open the cap cleaner so the user doesn't accidentally break the plastic breaks if he tries to open the 2 pieces wrong. The hinge and opening clasp are difficult to spot and appear to be the same at first glance. Also, there are VERY limited instructions on how to clean in the dishwasher - it would be nice to specify the amount and type of detergent to use to avoid too much suds. I'm in the habit of not washing anything in the dishwasher except dishes and glasses. I'm still not sure if real dish soap can be used - I used a limited amount of non-sudsing fabric detergent and oxygen bleach.
