Fantastic item for chimneys

Research: I went to a local store that had several different fireplaces on display. I ended up ordering a touchstone as it was the best combination of cost and aesthetics. It really turned out that way. Sideline's flame looks better than any other brand I've tested. I was also very pleased that they stock a 100 inch screen and the price is very good compared to the competition which costs a few hundred less. Buying through Prime gave me extra confidence and an extra guarantee. Shipping: The device was tied tightly to a linear pallet, which protected it from damage and made it much easier to move. It was sent via UPS mail and they did a good job. Installation: This is a bulky piece of equipment that will work just fine with two people. Or if you're like me and impatient/impulsive, I managed to do it myself but was VERY careful. One wrong move and that glass front is goodbye or you'll fall and rattle/damage the metal case. Installation was actually a breeze. Once I cut a hole in the drywall. My only problem is how they suggested it and I'm glad I did it before installing, I connected the device to test it. At first I thought it was a simulated crackling of coals, but then I realized my block was making a horrible crunch. I was able to look inside and saw that the "flame wand" was not attached to one end of the device, but simply twisted out of its socket and scratched the metal casing. I thought it was bent but after TouchStone customer service replied (very quickly) they gave me additional instructions on how to open the unit and fix the flame wand. It's a bit inconvenient to remove about 50 screws from the back of the device, enough to be an issue. Luckily it didn't bend, it just had to be reinstalled into the mount/sleeve. What struck me is that there was no way this could have happened during shipping, nor could it just pop out of that mount. It was evident that this was a quality control issue at the factory. So I let her know and hey, I guess shit happens. Luckily this was an easy fix so I didn't have to return the unit or call a repair service. I admit that it also gave me a chance to really get to know the device and understand how it works. I think this knowledge bodes well for the maintenance of the unit for years to come. I noticed that other people's reviews mention grinding and they may not have realized that they had the same problem with a misaligned flame rod. When properly installed and working, it's virtually silent (no heat). Final Installation: So I went through the above adventure once and installed. It looks absolutely amazing. What I love. I think the flame looks very realistic. They give you the option to incorporate some fake crystals or I use fake wood which looks really cool. I also love that there are multiple dimming options and one of the main reasons I chose this fixture is that I only like the blue flame. So if I just wanted to go into the usual "fireplace" mode, I just turned on the orange flame. But when you're watching a movie, just putting it on a faint blue flame is very cool; not too obtrusive and a really cool look. I live in Florida to be honest, except maybe a few weeks a year I won't be consuming heat. I'm sorry, I can't comment on that aspect yet. I will upload photos when the project is complete and the stone book is placed around it.

Pros
  • INSTALLATION: This side line is easy to install and attaches securely to frame posts. The side and rear walls of the device remain when the heating function is switched on. A minimum of 8 inches of clearance is recommended between the top of the fireplace and your television, mantel, and picture ceiling. Sideline can be safely installed in existing chimney openings. Consult a licensed professional to ensure your unused gas lines and vents are secure. The Sideline fireplace is fanless.
Cons
  • Everything is fine
