This is GREAT packaging. I LOVE CamelBak products and use them a lot, from backpacks to water bottles, and they're always very well made and thought out. This pack is no exception. I really enjoy using this pack and even like it more than my Osprey and Thule packs depending on the hack. Dubbed the "Fourteener," it's designed to carry everything you need for a long day of climbing the 14er. If you were a true minimalist or don't want the burden of camping/cooking/etc. spit with other campers you could use this for a night before your 14 but I would probably still prefer a slightly larger backpack for that packing convenience. This package is very convenient. It has 4 thick padding pads that fit around your upper and lower back to minimize backpack fatigue and also opens up a HUGE space for air circulation between you and the backpack. The pads are evenly ribbed and covered with mesh to increase airflow. This pack will be one of the best and will help wick moisture away from your back as you sweat. The shoulder and hip bars have a little padding, but not much, but heavy padding isn't necessary for a 14 as you shouldn't get bogged down in the weight, just the bare minimum. It has lots of storage space. for a full day trip. The waist straps have pockets, one with a zip and one with an open pocket that's perfect for my iPhone XS max. I like the easy access to my phone for navigation/chat/etc. and the other pocket is roomy enough to hold a few snacks for easy access. On the outside of the backpack is an easy access stash pocket that fits a ton of stuff, easily groceries/essentials/rolled jacket etc. There is a side water bottle pocket for easy access when carrying the backpack. There is a small outside zippered pocket that can fit snacks/ID/wallet/keys etc. The main compartment has a pair of mesh dividers to organize small items, a medium sized open pocket behind the mesh pockets, and then the main storage compartment. The main storage space is very easy to access thanks to the 3/4 top opening. It's very easy to get to the bottom and see everything inside. The tank compartment is also spacious and it is very easy to remove and refill the water tank. The tank itself is great. The tank is VERY easy to fill and clean thanks to the extra-large swivel opening. The flow is great and the straw goes through mounts and clips on the pack to keep everything in place while hiking. This tank is my favorite type of tank because of the large opening that makes filling and cleaning much easier than any other type of tank. Overall I just LOVE this pack. So comfortable and versatile, and it really needs a beating. It just looks good, which is a nice bonus. The investment in this package was 100% worth it.
