I have used this model at least 2-3 times and probably many more times as a football referee microphone for penalty kicks and other announcements. In fact, I used it in my game last night! I don't know what receiver they used (a Shure model from the same line I think) but everything (usually) goes through the speaker with no problem. Sometimes there is feedback, but that's a function of the stadiums I work in – the speaker is often on the scoreboard behind one end zone or the other, and in some stadiums it's difficult to avoid feedback. The device is not to blame. In terms of range, they say over 300 feet. The soccer field is 52 yards wide; The track and stands are another 40-50 yards (possibly), and the height of the press box makes the distance just over linear feet. So if I'm in an end zone on the other side of the field and the receiver picks up my voice, it MUST be more than 300 feet away. As far as I know, I have never been disconnected from using this device because I was out of range. This (and its receiver) should be mandatory equipment for all school districts with a soccer program. It can also be used in band competitions, festivals and promotions. Even the smallest school district should be able to afford it. A good match referee will tell you what the challenge is or what happened on the field so the audience is better informed. They might not like the challenge, but often what they thought didn't happen, but it wasn't explained because the referee didn't have a microphone.
