I bought this little gun to paint my kitchen cabinets with oil paint and now I'm a real fan of this little green critter. The finish was excellent, no drips, no streaks and no orange peel. The quality of the finish corresponds to professional results. I wasn't shocked, I was amazed, and most importantly, cleaning is a breeze. I now prefer this little gun to my other HVLP sprayers for most small jobs. To spray oil based paint I used the following method: - Adjust the spray tip according to the instruction manual - Dilute the paint by about 10% with mineral spirits. . We also usually add a few drops of Japanese desiccant - pour the paint through a paint strainer into a mason jar - set the compressor to about 25 pounds of pressure as a starting point (this gun doesn't last long) - put on the breathing gear (seriously , don't spray paint without the right mask) - start spraying on a piece of wood or cardboard to make fine adjustments. for now. We usually end up at 28-30 pounds. Much more than that, and your color has a good chance of looking like an orange peel. If you get it right, which is actually not that difficult, you should have a glassy smooth surface. What not to do: Don't try to do the job in one shift. It won't work and the end result will suck. When using oil-based paint, expect three coats. - Hang or stand what you paint in a relatively dust-free area to dry, as wet paint can attract dust. - Spray evenly in strokes, starting and ending at the edges of the object you are drawing. Painting. Never START spraying when the sprayer is pointed directly at the object to be painted. - Vary the direction of spray from layer to layer (i.e. up/down, left/right, corner/corner) as this will provide good coverage. Cleaning is easy. . Take a second can with some white spirit, attach it to the sprayer and spray into the box until the color is clear (about 6 or 7 short flashes), then take a paper towel with some white spirit and wipe the brass off Sprayer parts to remove paint. It's that easy. Turns painting from a chore into fun. Nearly. We have uploaded a picture of one of our custom wall mounted bathroom cabinets spray painted with this spray gun so you can get an idea of the quality of the finish.
