I recently left one of my cars for a long time. I needed an easy way to check battery status so I could use my multi-car charger and a few small batteries for lawn maintenance and other uses. A month later, I received a message about the need for a top-up. You can use this device by plugging it in, fully charging it with a smart charger (e.g. CTEK), and then leaving it alone. You'll likely need a fully charged baseline to get started. I'm happy with that. I'm almost thinking of other vehicles that drive more often, but not often enough just to make sure the batteries are good.
