I recommended these artificial grass mats because they helped us teach our youngest dog to confine her outdoor potty to two and two areas on our patio. Our other indoor trained dogs have chosen to follow suit, so these pads are used many times a day. I don't recommend them for indoor use as they start to smell quickly and the urine smell never goes away entirely no matter how much water you spray or spray with bleach. But it's the smell of dog urine that makes dogs come back, right? Oh, one more thing. WARNING: When using these pads in outdoor trays, hose them down AT LEAST every few days in cold weather and EVERY DAY in hot weather. Also, during the warmer months, I spray them regularly with Dr. Bronner's soap and some bleach because if you don't keep these pads clean all sorts of interesting creatures will want to live in them and lay their eggs. similar to bees, wasp-like flying insects, and black beetles similar to those always shown on CSI. I think it has to do with the beehive-like chambers in the plastic shell and the holes punched in the grass pads, along with dog urine, which some insects love for its salt. Yes, it was a terrible summer when we all found out about this!
