Chacos are the best because they're thick enough to protect your feet even when hiking rough terrain, but don't have the awkward Velcro straps, toe straps, or other awkward feel that many sandals have. They also work like little fins when swimming. They are especially good because the straps are nice and wide and the chacos are always nice and easy to adjust when you first get them. After wearing them for a while, you need to spend some time washing the sand out of the tunnel where the strap goes through the sole. There is nothing left but to pull the strap back and forth, flushing all the sand out of the hose each time.
