Review on ASICS Gel Nimbus 20 Trail Running Shoe for Men by Terry Paige

Revainrating 4 out of 5

FINALLY - reinforced eyelets! Unfortunately, the cushioning (and comfort) is gone. :(

A few years ago I wore the Gel Nimbus line and stopped buying them due to a serious design flaw: the eyelets for the laces were not reinforced and a good one, a strong pull on the Tying laces would rip them right through the shoe! This happened a couple of times and Asics offered to replace them but that didn't stop it from happening again and again. Luckily Asics fixed this recently and the eyelets are now all reinforced with metal so I am more than happy to post my first order for an Asics Gel Nimbus in years. When this review was originally written I had just received my first pair of new Gel Nimbus running shoes in about 5 years and I've now updated them after returning them - more on that later Nimbus 20 feels less soft and springy than early ones re generations, and a call to Asics confirmed this - they really are less padded than previous generations. Deer. That clo oud-like comfort I loved in the Nimbus 12, 13, 14 etc is sadly gone. I have a large foot and the 14D fits me perfectly, but the shoes just haven't been comfortable for a very long time. I like the new full mesh shell, it breathes really well - too bad it's not as soft as it used to be. I brought them back and switched to the very comfortable and well-cushioned Brooks Calderas shoes instead (note: the Caldera is a very wide shoe). If they hadn't changed the padding I would still wear them.

Pros
  • The lower leg measures approximately low from the arch of the foot
