I'm a 3D character artist who mainly works with Zbrush and other 3D applications. I have always used Wacom products for work and school. With the latest new generation from Wacom, I felt that their quality and price issues just fell short. I wanted to see how this Huion compares to my Wacom Intuos Pro environment. Many of the reviews are mostly from illustrators and hobbyists and don't show how using 3D would work. The new Huion with large workspace and 8K stylus are the features that really interested me. The purchase went smoothly and without any problems right from the start. It arrived on time and very nicely packaged. The fit and finish are very good and feel in place. Compared to my Wacom, the tablet has 8 hotkeys and only the face is missing. I use a keyboard so it's not a problem for me. With the pen, it becomes a matter of personal taste. It doesn't feel too cheap, but for me it's missing some key Wacom features. The Huion Pen Flute is not as wide as Wacom's and lacks a rubber grip. These two qualities are actually very important to me. My fingers feel more relaxed and stable with the Wacom design. The Huion pen doesn't have an eraser, but I honestly don't know anyone who actually uses this feature instead of a keyboard. Huion scores this time because the pen buttons are fully programmable for all keyboard shortcuts and hotkeys. Drivers are easy to install and all hotkeys are fully programmable too. The work surface is good and well suited for a medium to large tablet. I'm using a 27" monitor, so I like less acceleration and prefer a larger tablet. Huion worked very well in ZBrush. The strokes were very smooth and I noticed the pen pressure. There seemed to be lighter strokes with the Huion 8K pen. as well as much stronger hits compared to Wacom. I ran these two tests head to head. I found Huion was very good with only a little difference in performance. Oddly enough, the Wacom felt a little smoother and a little more direct in accuracy. This may be due to Wacom's smaller workspace and therefore slightly more acceleration. My wife tested it and she agreed that the Wacom felt a little smoother. However, I trust Huion with a new range, so it can take a while to get used to the pressure levels. I've also tested it in other applications, including Photoshop and Huion, which have performed brilliantly. There were no issues and I couldn't find anything wrong with it. In Photoshop I noticed that I can get a larger selection of st. light and heavy, like in Zbrush. I will say that I recommend this tablet unreservedly if you are new to digital art. Compared to my Wacom, this Huion is $250.00 cheaper and has everything you need and want in a tablet. The Huion is by far the most economical drawing tablet and is great for 3D artists. Times have changed and I see Wacom's influence in this market gradually waning as companies start to step up their game. At the moment I strongly recommend it for professional use, but I also have to see how it can withstand 80+ hours of use per week. I wish it came with a drawing glove as I use them with tablets and tablet monitors. The battery life of the Huion pen and tablet is very good and the wireless connection works without any problems. With this new advance, I would like to see a pen without charging in the future as well. This new Huion tablet as it stands is as good as my current Intuos and the price is an absolute Huion win.
