The suction cup stays in place and fits snugly in the stand. Just push firmly to lock it in place.

Works as it should, you just have to press hard so that the ball sits correctly in the holder. Saved me from constantly looking at the cup holders where my GPS used to be since I lost the original suction cup. It soaks up and stays in place even better than the original.
