I used this to caulk an old 4 inch cast iron riser because the original brass plug and flared tube had to be cut out because it was pressing against the base of the new dishwasher. It is simple, heavy, well made and forms a permanent seal within the remaining cast iron pipe but can be removed in the future if required. I used this product because everything else looked cheap in comparison. He slipped easily into the pipe and by turning the nut effortlessly expanded the rubber block, creating a strong seal for sewer gasses. Its advertised use appears to be for a test plug to pressure test 4" pipes, for which it works well.
