I can't believe I've suffered for so long over a cheap tool. The slot and texture hold the ends of the retaining ring in place. As with other reviews, the grips don't feel limp and loose at the top, but are snug where it counts. If you're more into form than function, you're sure to find some rose gold wands with tight, fancy handles to place next to your nail polish. For me they do a great job in transfers and other things.
