Review on Sunnyside Corporation 872G1S: Top-Quality Boiled Linseed Oil in a Convenient Gallon Size by Kirk Arroyave

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for raised beds and wine barrels

I have used this on mahogany raised beds that I have built and new oak wine barrels that I have cut in half. Raw flaxseed oil is just oil, "cooked" flaxseed oil is actually diluted with a drying chemical, so you should not use cooked oil for food contact applications. For growing vegetables, we use both barrels and beds, so the raw material is ideal for us. The oil takes longer to dry (because it doesn't contain a desiccant), so the surface stays tacky longer, but eventually it dries out. It does a good job of giving the oak a honey color on the barrels and probably keeps the metal. some call too. The mahogany only darkens a bit, but for now it does a good job of preventing the mahogany from going gray like it would if it were outdoors. I suspect it needs to be reapplied every year or two.

Pros
  • Wood conditioners, waxes and oils
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
