I read reviews on the site about the performance of dummy security cameras and in general they can be useful, but a flashing red light is just a sign for thieves that it is is fake, like real security cameras there are none, which is why I suggested not using them, and of course that means no fiddling with batteries! I suggest attaching a cable to the camera to make it appear as if it is actually connected to a surveillance device. You can use a short coaxial cable like cable TV. There are many easy ways to make it look real no matter what surface you place it on. I have vertical siding, which made it easy to install a camera through a slot in the siding and thread the cable through the slot, tape it under the camera and wrap a piece around it to secure it in the slot in the siding to keep. on the other side (see photo).
