Perfect width and I like the thick sole but too much material when opening for small dogs resulting in a lot of overlap/excess material, which does not allow enough tension on the Velcro straps. If you tighten the velcro more tightly, my dog hurts. There should also be 2 straps, as in shoes for large breed dogs. A strap doesn't hold the shoe in place so it rotates and the sole lands on the side or on the paws. I'm considering returning them, but I might just cut off the excess material and see if that makes a difference in density.
