The gel will dissolve over time.

My dog used to go into the kitchen or bathroom to lie down on the cool, carpet-free floor. She was also lying next to me on the carpet. I put this rug on the part of the rug she was laying on and now she just lies on it and never goes into the kitchen or bathroom again. I've had this for several years and only recently discovered it came from a gel. I don't know when it broke up. It had no holes. So I bought another one, she seems to like it so much. I'll keep a better eye on the gel this time and see how long it really lasts.
