I bought it 5 months ago to do basic outdoor exercise. I'm not a gymnast, but I do rock climbing. The material of the rings is plastic, but you probably don't need chalk to get a good grip. Plastic is not as soft as wooden rings. I'm used to the rough surface so it doesn't bother me anymore but my girlfriend thinks it's too rough. I hung them on a tree. It lasted 2 minutes and I haven't moved them since. They are on a branch of a tree about 5m high, there is more string left and I don't know what to do with it. I like her. Maybe there's a better package out there, but they do the job.
