When I use the brush on the lens it tends to smudge rather than sweep. The brush is good for sweeping dust and sand and anything else a pear can't get rid of. As for the "cloth" finish, I hesitate to use it often because I don't want to get it dirty. I keep a small pouch with a microfiber cloth to do most of the cleaning. It's good to have on hand though and I would use it on a real lens glass but for filter cleaning I could just breathe on it, use my shirt or microfiber cloth and that's fine.
