I have 6 pug/chihuahua mixes. The largest weighs 15 pounds and the smallest weighs 8 pounds. This ladder is too soft. Dogs' paws squeak so low when they step down a flight of stairs that they don't consider it very safe. I've made a few changes to make it useful. 1. I used thin, hard, flat plastic and cardboard which I folded in the shape of a ladder and placed inside the lid and on top of the steps. Which made him much stronger. It helped.2. Ladders are so light that the ladder will move/slip across the floor when dogs quickly climb on it. You need to use something to hold the ladder in place like carpet tape or something rubbery like what you put under a slippery carpet. The floor is slippery, it's not scary. Definitely not worth the original price they asked. I actually bought mine "used" at half price and still feel like it's not quite worth the price.
