Review on πŸ’» HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G2 (2UK37AA#ABA) - Port Replicator Docking Station by Matt Watkins

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Faulty but works with dual displays with TB3 cable + 100W

Pros: Works via ThunderBolt3 with HP Specter 15" and MacBook Pro 2016+. Dual display worked with U3011 2K@60Hz DP-DP, LG 27GL850 -B 2K USBC-DP and VGA, with left DisplayPort and rear right USBC connector Cons: - Bug: HP Dock firmware update causes BSOD on Win10 1909. HP -Support not available - Error: I tried 7 cables, CalDigit TS3+ compatible, 5 failed on G2; Full DP cable in left slot + right USBC working TB3 port could not chain TS3 + TB3 dock and will not work with most cables Poor design: top panel (1/6 block!) is a power button which is not working disabled, you will often shut down accidentally. The dock has its own fan, and low CPU activity will activate the laptop's fan even when it is not charging. -Bad on MacOS: TS3+ @ 85W works out of the box G2 @ 100W only no ethernet, no audio, no dual display on Catalina; but both work in Bootcam p Win 10 1809 on MBP 2016+. - Vendor tethering: TS3+ is more reliable and versatile in all cases, except in one case: HP 15 inch charges from HP G2, but HP Windows notifications ask for a power cable with TS3+ at moderate CPU load. Verdict: For HP 15 inches or $50+ If you're willing to live with the flaws, buy a G2. For everything else, get a CalDigit TS3+ (refurbished, 15% off on public holidays).
