For the past few months I have tried the following 1/4" shank bottom bearing router bits to trim horizontally with the FastCap "Little Lipper" bit. , with varying degrees of success : (1) Amana Tool 47116 Flush Cut - 3 teeth / 1/2" dia x cutting length 1/2" (2) Amana Tool 47148 Laminate Trim with Euro Square Bearing - 2 teeth / 3 dia 4" x 5/8" Cutting Length(3) CMT 806.191.11 Heavy Duty Flush Bit - 2 Flute / 3/4"Dia x 1" Cutting Length(4) Freud 42-090 Flush Bit - 2 Flute / 3/4"Dia x 1" Cut length(5) Freud 42-104 flush edge - 2 flutes / 1/2" diameter x cut length 1" (6) 2 flutes / 3/4" diameter x cut length 5/8" best) direct next to the edge to prevent the knife from cutting into the melamine laminate by providing additional clearance between the knife and guide bearing Although the Amana does not use tape needed, its rotating square bearing broke off at the edges at the end of the cut, and the black nylon left marks on the white melamine at the beginning of the cut. Overall, the Whiteside showed the best consistent results and was the only one with a regular round bearing that would not cut into the melamine surface without the use of masking tape. The cut was always smooth and even, had a factory look. There are a couple of minor complaints though: first, there should be more clearance between the end of the carbide and the top of the bearing (similar to Amana Tool and Freud cutters), and second, the bearing is made in China. As such, long-term reliability can be an issue. Despite these small points, it is highly recommended.
