It works, but you only get what you pay for.

The battery cover falls off every time it's moved at all, so be sure to use duct tape every time you change batteries, and definitely don't leave it without when it's raining to take precautions. Last night I had to lift it over a puddle that formed on the table and put it in a garbage bag. The display on the unit itself is fine and the alarm is audible but not annoying, but once the alarm goes off the display just shows a temperature until it's fixed. Actually this only works with the app and the app needs some work: the alarm function is really broken - when you try to create an alarm and name it it opens a keyboard that can't be closed. You just have to force close the app and set the time ranges again when you open it again. I wanted an hourly alarm to add charcoal, but after my 3rd attempt to do this on the app I only set 6 alarms on my phone. The timing diagram uses increments so large that they are almost useless (see my picture). I was hoping to go back and see how long the grill took to set the temperature but no cubes. I'll just have to be more careful next time. Overall it's ok, the temperatures it gave me were pretty much in line with my other thermometers, it's just very cheap and takes a little getting used to. I wish I'd only spent another $10 to get one that wouldn't fall apart when touched, but it's not bad enough that I'd send it back.

Pros
  • Crossing my fingers
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
