Great filter! I had one that my plumber installed and it took over a year. The water still tasted good, but past the 1 year mark I was a bit worried so I replaced it. Removing and installing the filter was relatively easy. At first glance, the price seems high, but if you divide it by 12 months, it is cheaper than bottled water or pure filters. FILTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION Some installation notes: 1) Place a bucket or large towel under the filter. for catching water droplets from the filter when removing the old filter and installing a new one. 2) Insert the filter fully into the housing, then turn counterclockwise until it clicks into place. (Estimate the degree of twisting based on how long it took to unwind the old filter.) Be sure to depress the latch before turning on the water. I didn't tighten the cartridge enough and there was a slight flooding after turning on the filter. Make sure you run the filter for 15 minutes to flush out trapped air and debris. Stick a label with the installation date so you don't forget to replace the filter before 12 months have passed. I'm also having trouble removing the filter from the housing. I was advised to use a strap wrench to have more leverage and add some silicone based o-ring lube around the threads to reduce friction and prevent o-ring sticking. The strap wrench worked and I was able to remove the old filter. We were concerned about using a non-food silicone lube, so we used some vegetable oil instead. Hope these tips help you. A NOTE ABOUT THE CHEAP BUT INTERNAL FILTER S-104 - AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I first replaced my H-104 filter with an S-104 to save $10. According to the specification, the only difference is that H-104 reduces scale and deposits, but the overall filtration performance is the same for both filters. THAT WAS A MISTAKE! After 6 months the water tasted worse than unfiltered. So I called Everpure to fix the problem. I have been told that I need to replace the filter as it is probably "full" and therefore not filtering properly (although the flow does not change). How is that possible when the old H-104 has been running for over a year with the same water consumption? So I asked if there was a guarantee on this issue as the filter was supposed to last about a year and stopped working after 6 months. I was told that there is no guarantee as to the durability of the filter. So after saving $10, I lost $50. It's a tough deal for what appears to be a more economical option. Don't buy the C-104 filter!
