This is a solid, good quality tree stand. I used it on two 7ft trees. The first was the perfect perfect shape of a Christmas tree and the second was a banana. (It looked better at the party, I promise.) Despite the wobbly wood, it's easy to set up and adjust. Once you get the center of gravity right it becomes very stable and I'm not worried about it falling off. I didn't drill it into a layer or anything like some of the other reviewers - yes, there is movement between the components before you set the tree in place, but once the tree's weight is on or in it, it's solid . .
