Review on Maximize Efficiency with Camco Detachable Maintenance Excellent 41544 by Ghostnote Azevedo

This was my review on popupportal.com: I'll be away for 4 days next week and as the owner of the original cassette toilet I wanted to test the unit before I head out. Camco Portable Travel Toilet (41544) review completed - I think I was out Saturday morning through Wednesday morning. tl; dr: A positive experience! Get one :) DW would never agree if I tested it at home, so I hid it downstairs in the shower in our bathroom. Everyone (dw, dd1, dd2) in the house uses the downstairs bathroom, but nobody uses the shower, so the curtain stays closed - the perfect hiding place and testing ground. I wanted to make sure it was working properly and that I could easily empty/clean the cartridge. And since my pup isn't that big and I don't have an outside toilet tent, he needs to be in the pup, so I wanted to make sure he wasn't smelly. I used orange TST pods - the instructions are vague - they say drop the pod and pour in enough water to cover the pod. Here's what I did. I intentionally didn't change a single part of my normal routine - if I needed #1, I put #1, and if I needed #2, I put #2. I haven't tried to save water with fewer flush pumps or use less (or special) toilet paper. The cassette worked great. The seat was a bit tight - I'm not tiny (6", 230#) and I would have preferred the seat to be longer/more oval, but it wasn't bad at all. 16 inches from the floor - not the usual toilet height but close enough and very comfortable. The overall size is compact - I had plenty of room to do my business in the shower :p It was easy to work with - everything worked exactly as advertised. I recommend laying out some paper towels first to make cleaning easier. open hatch, do business, finish rinsing, everything goes under. simply wipe off any residue or put a handkerchief in front of it. don't worry about saving water - rinse rinse. close hatch, close seat and seat cover A decent guy with a good appetite - let's just say I'm the perfect test subject, my cassette has a 5.3 gallon waste tank and I probably filled it halfway in 4 days, maybe a little more . Mind you, I didn't do without the toilet, TP or flushing. For a tank this size, I'll empty it about halfway - I think it gets pretty heavy when it's full. The weight itself wouldn't prevent me from carrying it, but emptying it at that weight would be uncomfortable. It's nice to have the extra capacity, and it also increases the seat height. smells? no, not in use yet. No one in my family noticed the smell even though the cassette was on the other side of the shower curtain when they used the house toilet. When I opened the hatch on business, there was a slight smell, but it was very muffled. If someone was too sensitive I think there are a few extra pods to help you with the smell but overall I was so happy with how little it smelled. The hatch is excellent at retaining odors, and after you flush it and then close it, a little water remains on the hatch, which I think helps with the tightness. Drain - today I decided to finish the test - it was consistent with what I will be camping next week. I watched videos (there are some English ones about driving Thetfords, very funny :)) so I was ready. I had a container of water to pour fresh water back into the tank to rinse out. in general everything went smoothly. it smelled a bit, but again very subdued, not bad at all. Having changed diapers to two girls over the years I have had no problems with it. The material was also very broken, hard to find scraps of fabric etc., very runny. everything went well. Extend the drain hose, remove the cap, flush the toilet and drain the water while flushing the toilet. The only thing I didn't do perfectly was hold the end of the hose as close to the toilet water as possible and immediately press the deflation button. splashed (phew) but it was only a few drops and I won't make that mistake again ;-) After the first major reset was done, I filled the tank with clean water, closed the lid and shook the tank. refuel and empty again. I did this about 4 times - until the water ran clear. Wipe everything with a handkerchief, done. Nobody likes to mess around with stuff like that, but having a cassette is cool. My best pop-up purchase so far.
