When I bought this I first started painting digitally. My first impression was that the product is much smaller than it looks, about the size of my palm, but I still had high hopes for it. I immediately tried to draw with him - and was unpleasantly surprised. Maybe it was my computer that wasn't working, but it was lagging too far behind. He guessed half of the line I drew. When I tried holding my hand and turning on the stabilizer in the art program, not much changed. I drew half with a computer mouse. I finally gave up after the cable bent and didn't fit in the tablet anymore. (it was only a few weeks). Also the glove, the only one I still use of the product, is quite large for my small hands. I can still use it but I think it will be even more difficult for an 11-12 year old. I would not recommend this tablet, especially to young artists just starting out with digital art. It was very boring and difficult to use. I chose this tablet because it was cheap and I was on a budget, but it's worth paying the extra $30 for a quality tablet.
