Phone line protection works great.
I live at the end of a quarter mile from a power and phone line. The lightning destroyed more than one DSL modem, even with protection, but that solved the problem. He dies after being hit nearby but saves the modem in the process. I fit 2 or 3 a year. The only thing that doesn't work is the surge protector on the phone line, so I can still use it as an outlet later. I tried a few different things and this is where I ended up.
