I really wanted to love this controller. It looks amazing and I love the button layout, the Bluetooth connectivity, the lighting, the look and the D-Pad. Unfortunately, this controller has several serious disadvantages that are decisive for me. I won't dwell too much on the overall rating as there is nothing "wrong" with the controller, it just isn't for me. Joysticks have no texture. They are smooth and have very small protrusions. My fingers slip away. Both joysticks are unusable for me. I have purchased rubber joystick covers and while they fit most controllers, these joysticks are too small and do not work well with this controller. I don't like any of the four shoulder buttons, it might be personal preference but they were too easy to accidentally hit just trying to get a firm grip on the controller which is overall too slick/slippery. The controller form doesn't help much with this. My final quibble would be the three buttons at the bottom of the controller. They're small, hard to press, and they're important buttons, so you have to reposition the controller in your hands to press them, which resulted in me dropping the controller onto my lap a couple of times. This might seem like a small problem, but they are hurdles I just can't get over. Pros: There are a few things I really like about this controller. The D-Pad is perhaps my favorite thing about this controller. It's a bit bland but I think it keeps a good and solid old school feel for the most part. The A/B/X/Y buttons are solid and satisfying to press, but the START and SELECT buttons are probably the two best buttons on the controller. They both really nailed it. They feel like authentic NES style to me. One useful feature of the controller that doesn't seem to get much coverage on the product page is the Bluetooth connection indicator on the controller's edge. It's really awesome. It illuminates the entire side of the controller with a hypnotic blue ultra-slow pulsing strobe light. I'm a big fan of it. I wasn't able to fully charge this controller while gaming, so I can't comment on the battery life. If I had to modify this controller, the first thing I would change would be to make the joysticks bigger and more textured. Next, shrink the shoulder buttons and give them a little more pressure to push them all the way down. Give the back of the controller a slightly grippy texture. Move the shortcut buttons at the bottom to the corners of the controller's faceplate. And give the controller some WEIGHT for goodness sake. this thing is light as a feather. A strong gust will blow it away. Also, the hum is very weak, it can't be that. The heart of 8bitdo is in the right place, but it needs fine tuning.
