This replaced an older dining room lamp. Everything arrrived well packaged, with no damage to any of the glass shades. The instructions are pictorial and decent enough, but some might prefer greater written description if they have not attempted installation like this before. The down rod length can be varied by fixed lengths, so you have some flexibility as to how to mount the fixture, albeit not as much variation possible as with a chain (but it'll get less dusty!) We elected to have the shades facing downwards, instead of upwards - both are possible straight-forwardly enough. After installing everything, it was all cleaned with glass cleaner - the shades will show fingerprints quite easily. It looks clean and modern.
