I bought this thermometer because I'm new to grilling and it's difficult to know when the meat is done. When I first cooked hamburgers, it worked well. Read 160 degrees and the burgers were good. The second time I used it was to cook pork steaks. I went by the time in the recipe and used a thermometer as they were almost done in about 20 minutes. The thermometer showed 43 degrees. I let it sit for a few minutes and waited for it to rise. It has reached 50 degrees. I cut the pork and it was well done. I thought it was just a coincidence. Tonight I cooked a porter house steak for $18. After 4 minutes on each side, high heat, I checked the steak with a thermometer. It was 43 degrees there. I let the thermometer stand for a minute, it read 50 degrees. I took a steak. When I cut it open it was the perfect medium rare. If I could rate this less than one star I would. This is pure RUBBISH.
