So I know a lot of people are struggling with sound with this unit and I've been there for all of you. However, I have found a solution that does not require the factory OBC module to be plugged in and placed in the glove box. Problem? For those with true DSP sound, the amp's polling rate ranges from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. This means that if the amplifier does not receive a sufficient signal from the head unit during this time, it will turn off the volume. Solution? Forget about plugging the OBC back in and putting it in the glove box. The i-BUS reseller interface is the answer. The German-made part, which comes from Germany, is hard-wired to the vehicle's power, ground, and data cables. By purchasing an interface (a little USB like thing) plus OBC and DSP licenses you can configure the DSP and view the OBC (on board computer) directly from the head unit (see image). I have now combined a fully functional head unit as well as all original BMW features in a much more modern setup. It took work, but it was worth it for me. Appreciation for the extra work required to clear this all up which has led to a lot of forum research and sharing of information with this company. Much luck!
