Review on Fluke FC Wireless Digital Multimeter by Jerry Moody

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good kit! I wish this set had DC too.

Nice set! I wish this kit included a DC meter and ammeter as well, but I can't complain, I bought those too! Current gauges are good, and flexible clamps make them even better. I like a flexible and precise way to go around wires and different contact wires. Not having to worry about the metal clips hitting the 800A rail when you try to grind them is worth its weight in gold. Very quick response, quicker than I expected. The launch function is nice too, but I suspect if you have a variable launch load you might want to jump in. It seems to look at the highest value and then stop as soon as the current drops. Makes the inductance reading of a loaded motor slightly more dynamic than this function requires. I've attached 2 photos of a 10hp 480y taking off with the V-belt tensioned. Our environment is so electrically noisy that the meter always reads between 0.1 and 0.3 amps, at home between 0 and 0.1. In this noisy environment, the wireless range is about 30 feet! I haven't exhausted this gauge yet, but I've seen it still respond well across the range. I've also included his diagram for a wye-delta motor. AC meter is a good tool for single phase recording. It came with some good clips to attach it to the rails and other mounting nuts. My only complaint is that I wish it had the ability to stick to 3 phases and ground, provide phase to phase and phase to ground voltage readings. Good length and quality cord, tips are interchangeable. Reacts quickly, still has great range and speed. I might even buy 2 more of these to record voltage and current on all three phases. A good quality multimeter, I haven't used it that much but it helps fill a gap that the others in this kit don't have. I checked the resistance and voltage with my Fluke meter and found that the readings matched the resistance of the wire. Note that this meter cannot handle large currents. It is limited to 400mA and has a fuse. I used it on a 4-20mA loop just to see its functionality and while it didn't read exactly like a Fluke process meter it gave you a very good idea of the output and operational status of the loop. It should also be noted that the process counter I used in the loop had 2 more digits for the mA value. magnetic hanging straps are the best thing since betty white, unfortunately most cupboards and cupboards in my job are stainless steel, luckily the back panel and most pipe connectors are bare steel! All cables are of good quality, but unfortunately the current loops are not interchangeable and when they wear out you have to buy new ones or open the device (I hope it doesn't break, it doesn't work) and solder new ones.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
